The Latin Alternative Music Conference (LAMC) will return to New York City this summer from July 9th – 13th.  Today the LAMC is proud to announce the line-up for the annual Celebrate Brooklyn free concert on Friday July 12th, which will feature a trio of exciting artists fusing traditional and modern sounds out of Mexico: Nortec Collective Presents Bostich + Fussible, Mexican Institute of Sound and Mariachi Flor de Toloache.

Grammy-nominated electronic pioneers Nortec Collective Presents Bostich + Fussible perform a unique fusion of Norteño (“from the North”) and Techno, a style of music they invented, which documents the collision between electronica and traditional Mexican music.  With tubas and iPads, Bostich + Fussible have toured the globe extensively, performing at festivals like Coachella and Bonnaroo, and major international shows from Brazil to China.  They recently appeared as guests on “No Reservations” during Anthony Bourdain’s visit to Tijuana and performed at the massive opening ceremonies for the Pan American Games alongside fellow Mexican legends Vicente Fernández and Maná, televised worldwide and watched by billions across the globe

During LAMC this summer, Bostich + Fussible will also debut their new collaboration with the modern dance group Pilobolus and choreographer Trish Sie (the team responsible for the treadmill-themed viral video hit of indie band OK Go!).

Thanks to the critical and commercial success of Mexican Institute of Sound’s albums ‘Mexico and ‘Soy Sauce’, M.I.S has brought their unique style of retro-futuristic fusion — incorporating elements of cumbia, punk and electro — to festival stages from Lollapalooza to Coachella, along with a wide range of high-profile features in HBO ‘Entourage.’ ‘Californication’ and EA Sports’ ‘FIFA’ soccer video game.

NYC’s all-female mariachi band, Mariachi Flor de Toloache will be opening the free concert, setting the stage with traditional sounds before Nortec Collective Presents Bostich + Fussible and Mexican Institute Of Sound bring the new sounds of Mexico to New York City.

LAMC has already announced the annual set of Central Park SummerStage free concerts, with acts ranging from breakout young stars like Alex Anwandter, Los Rakas and Natalia Clavier to established icons like Julieta Venegas and Lila Downs.  With past conferences averaging more than 1,250 music industry attendees and 25,000 concert fans each year, the 14th LAMC promises to be yet another exciting year. This four day conference providing networking opportunities with the genre’s leading artists, thinkers, music entrepreneurs, journalists, marketers, managers and programmers, is the most extensive to be offered by a Latin music conference to date. This year’s panels will include many of the music industry’s most prominent decision-makers discussing timely and relevant topics affecting the music industry today.

The 14th annual LAMC will break new ground, inaugurating a new expanded focus on a diverse array of special events dedicated to music, food, film, books, art and poetry.

Wednesday, July 10th, 2013:  Cuarto Poder / Los Rakas

One of the biggest names in Latin American hip-hop, Cuarto Poder built a reputation in Venezuela as leading MCs before releasing their US debut album In Tha House, which features their signature “Criollo Rap” style, fusing street lyrics with folk verses and traditional rhythms.

Los Rakas is comprised of cousins Raka Rich & Raka Dun, pioneering Panamanians by way of the Bay Area on the frontier of a new Latin urban sound.  Known for their fresh mix of hip-hop, plena, reggae and dancehall music with both Spanish and English lyricism, Los Rakas represent the cutting edge of Pan-American flows.

Thursday. July 11th, 2013: Lila Downs / Natalia Clavier / Pamela Rodriguez

Born in Oaxaca, Mexico, Lila Downs embraces and highlights her origins in the U.S. and Mexico.  For over a decade, Lila Downs has traversed the planet, bringing her dramatic and highly unique reinvention of traditional Mexican music and original compositions fused with blues, jazz, soul, and African roots. Downs has won multiple Grammy’s and Latin Grammy’s, most recently for her 2012 album, Pecados Y Milagros.

Known as the long-time live voice of Thievery Corporation, Natalia Clavier’s new solo album, Lumen was produced by GRAMMY-winning producer Adrian Quesada. With a sultry mix of Jazz-inspired vocals, electronic textures and global influences, Lumen further develops the sound Clavier cultivated while recording and touring with both Thievery Corporation and her husband, Argentinean singer-songwriter Federico Aubele.

Born and raised in Lima, Pamela Rodriguez has always been enticed by other paths of life, territories and cities. In 2006, Rodriguez was nominated for a Latin GRAMMY Award as “Best New Artist” and in 2012 received a second nomination for “Best Contemporary Pop Album.”

Saturday July 13th, 2013: Julieta Venegas / Carla Morrison / Alex Anwandter

Julieta Venegas is a renowned Mexican singer, instrumentalist and songwriter. Venegas has won several GRAMMY Awards and five Latin GRAMMY Awards, and sold more than 9 million copies of her albums worldwide. The Washington Post describes Venegas as a different sort of artist. “While many of her songs will entice you to get up and dance, there is also an intimacy to her work that comes through even for those whose Spanish doesn’t go much beyond “hola.”

Carla Morrison is a Mexican Alternative-Pop songstress with international recognition who won 2 Latin GRAMMY Awards – Best Alternative Album and Best Alternative Song – for her most recent album, Dejenme Llorar (Let Me Cry). Her angelically peaceful and lamenting voice brings listeners on an emotional rollercoaster with moments of both heartbreak and uplifting hope, which touch both their ears and their hearts.

Named by TIME Magazine as an artist “poised for US stardom” Alex Anwandter brings together 80′s-influenced dance music and emotional songwriting, presented with an engaging live performance full of intimacy and showmanship. His solo debut Rebeldes features poignant lyrics that tug at heart-strings, while crisp percussion and upbeat basslines keep the body moving. The album has been featured everywhere from PerezHilton.com to ViceMTV Iggy and Billboard, with NPR celebrating his music video homage to “Paris is Burning” for its courageous message of equality, love, and acceptance.
